Tbilisi to host UEFA Super Cup 2015

Great news for Georgian football fans – the UEFA Executive Committee has awarded UEFA Super Cup to Tbilisi in 2015. The UEFA Super Cup is an annual football match between the reigning champions of the Champions League and the Europa League. The game will be held at the newly renovated Mikheil Meshki Stadium.

This won’t be the only big sports event that Tbilisi will host in 2015, same year European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) will also take place in Georgia’s capital. The question is will the Georgian Football Federation enlarge Mikheil Meskhi Stadium or not, because currently it can only host up to 27,000 people. In the meantime, check out the promotion video for the Uefa Super Cup 2015 Tbilisi:

  1. great! Love seeing Georgia becoming an ever increasing aspect in the European football landscape. Just outta curiosity, how solid is the idea for hosting the European Championship in 2020? I mean, does Georgia have the mere chance of actually winning its proposal?

    1. Georgia wants to co-host with Azerbaijan. True, there’s A LOT to be done: stadiums, accommodation, airport capacity, etc. and competitors are really powerful, but one never knows🙂
